School District of Philadelphia
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

This design for an elementary school won an award from the American Institute of Architects.

The school needed to expand its student body to 1,000 students as well as expand its program. In addition the program asked that rooms be available to the community.

The addition housed a gym, multi-purpose room/cafeteria, science room, computer room, classrooms, and new main entrance.

The site was small. In order to maintain outdoor space for play, a roof play area was designed over the gym.

A grand stair allowed for dramatic and functional passage through the building.
